To everyone who has helped to keep our Show happening by supporting and entering, cheering us along and congratulating our winners, we thank you! This is a great community and the importance of events like the Show cannot be underestimated.

The very successful ‘Show in a Bag’ is over but there’s still an opportunity to get involved in all things ‘Show’. With the easing of COVID restrictions, we can now host some delayed events out at the Showgrounds. You are invited to take part in all the competitive sections under the VAS and MIDLAND group sections that are related to the Pavilion Schedule as well as the Fleece judging. Guidelines for entries can be found here.
All entries for the Pavilion Sections are to be delivered to the Pavilion on Sunday 21st November Between 9.30 and 10.30am. Judging will take place from 11am. The Pavilion will open from 1.00pm for entrants and visitors under COVID conditions and all entries and prizes can be collected from 2.30pm. Any queries regarding Pavilion entries can be directed to email@example.com or by phone: 0407 833 380.
For the Fleece entries and Judging – all fleeces must be with the Stewards, Ross Dohnt and Daniel Clarke by Friday 12 November to enable micron testing to take place. M&BAS invites all wool growers to enter this year’s competition. Steward, Ross Dohnt announced that, despite the cancellation of the full show, there will still be a Fleece Competition this year and that we are looking for Champion Fleeces in 6 Categories. There will be no entry fees for this year’s competition but all fleeces will be micron tested ahead of judging.

The “Show in a Bag” was launched today with 50 hand made show bags given out to local kids at the old Bank Corner this morning.
The family event normally held of the third Sunday of October was reluctantly cancelled, but the Committee wanted to still bring the Show to everyone so we decided to take it online. The first round of competitions began with the distribution of the bags which contained colouring competitions, bean growing challenges, Lego building and Cupcake Decorating challenges, photography competitions and much more.
Also in the bags were gifts from our generous sponsors, the Maldon & District Community Bank, and coloured pencils to encourage those budding artists.
The intershow competitions run by the Midland Group and VAS will take place later this year so now is the time to get practising your cooking and completing those entries for the craft sections. The VAS schedule can be downloaded here. The Midland Group Cookery competition will include that great favourite, the Bloke’s Chocolate Cake. We can’t wait to be able to taste your entries, fellas!

The President and Committee members of the Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Society Inc are regrettably forced to announce that this years Spring Show scheduled for 17 October has be cancelled.
We wish to thank all our sponsors and supporters amongst the business community of Maldon and surrounds for their generosity and faith in us as we worked to stage this well loved family event.
There are plans afoot in the hope that we will be able to run some Show activities over the next few weeks both online and in person, COVID and lockdown restrictions notwithstanding. Please keep an eye out for opportunities to take part in some of the Show’s events.
In Early 2020, the Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Society submitted a grant application through the Australian Governments Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants, the grants were designed to provide funding for the maintenance and upgrade of existing infrastructure and the purchasing, building and construction of new infrastructure related to the running of an agricultural show on regional showgrounds.
Five Grant Streams were available, with the Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Society applying under Category 1- Small grants for Small Shows which can be used for projects up to $124,999 ex GST.
The Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Society main aims when applying for the grant were to-
improved amenity of showground infrastructure to improve the experience of showground users and visitors
improved flexibility of use of showground infrastructure to increase the opportunity for it to be used for other events that bring the community together
use of modern construction methods and materials that reduce the cost of ongoing maintenance and repair of infrastructure
reduced operational costs for events conducted at and using showground facilities.
greater variety of attractions to improve shows’ ability to attract visitors.
We plan was to carry out 3 projects all of which will reduce the burden on volunteers during bump in/out, increasing safety for all users of the venue, providing first class facilities for the wider community and reduce the running cost of the event which will insure the longevity of the Maldon & Baringhup Show and other events held at the Recreation Reserve.
Install a generator, switchboards, underground cabling for power and Public address system. The aim is to increase electrical safety, reduce costs in putting on the show which currently hires all labour and equipment each year.
Purchase and installation of Grand stand seating and picnic tables and chairs. The aim is to provide our patrons with facilities that match major Shows and encourage families to spend more time at the show in comfort.
Purchase and installation of sheep yard penning, this will reduce volunteer labour in setting up, provide a better display of the sheep to the general public and reduce safety concerns from farmers around stock getting injured
The Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Society applied for, and were successful in obtaining funding of $116,154.18 ex GST for the 3 projects. 2017 marks 60 years since the introduction of Sun-News Pictorial Miss Show Girl Competition in Victoria. Introduced in 1957, the event was open to girls aged between 16 – 25.In order to find a winner, most Victorian country shows ran a qualifying heat with each local winner eligible for the final, which was judged at the Royal Melbourne Show. The competition evolved over time and reflecting social change, was eventually replaced by competitions inclusive of females and males.
RASV Heritage is preparing an exhibition on Miss Show Girl to mark the anniversary and would love to hear from any contestants involved in the competition over the years.
